• I noticed that the post modification date and time are not updating. I usually create a punch of posts prior to publishing and it’s really annoying when it then uses the draft ‘first created’ date rather than the actual publishing date. This has worked fine before. Sure, one can edit it manually but that’s just a bandage.

I see that the block editor has a link next to publish that says ‘Immediately’ and when you select that it will keep the date and time updated as you save the draft or publish. But this doesn’t carry over to the classic editor.

I have turned off all the plugins and switched to the default theme but the problem occurs. I can only get the current date and time to work on the block editor but not on the classic editor.

I recently also upgraded the PHP from 8.0 to 8.1.

So is it something in my end or was it one of the updates?

  • Hi @cookiemonster258 – I’d like to clarify what’s not working for you so I can better understand the issue.

Are you referring to the ability to schedule posts ahead of time? In other words, if you write a post today, but schedule it to be published tomorrow at 5pm, is it no longer being published?

Or are you referring to some other problem? If so, could you please explain it in more detail, providing screenshots or a screencast if possible? Thanks!

We have the same issue and I think it coincided with an upgrade to PHP 8.1 as well.

The issue we have, which sounds exactly like the original post is that we create a draft of a post at say 9am. This might be edited a few times through out the day and then published at say 4pm. Previously, when it was published at 4pm, the timestamp for the post would be 4pm.

The issue now is that when published at 4pm, the timestamp for the post is 9am (the time when the original draft was created). This has only started happening recently.

@dfc005 – to verify whether this is related to the Classic Editor in some way, would you be able to test this with the CE plugin deactivated and see if the same issue occurs? Thanks!

    Hi @zoonini
Same problem as DFC005. I usually prep the next week’s posts Friday and when I go to publish them ‘manually’ it has the Friday’s date and time. Scheduling works fine.

Thanks, @cookiemonster258 – as I mentioned above, to verify whether this is related to the Classic Editor in some way, would you be able to test this with the CE plugin deactivated and see if the same issue occurs? Thanks!

Hi there, I’ve just tested with the Classic Editor off and found that it too seems to put the draft article in the past when it does finally get changed to published.

So perhaps this isn’t an issue with Classic Editor at all but potentially a PHP error or a core WordPress issue?!

OK, looking into it further I found this post: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/post-draft-conflict-with-publish-date/

I then disabled WooCommerce briefly on my site and this brought back the Publish immediately option.

It looks like WooCommerce is the culprit.

@zoonini Please read my original message.

@dfc005 – glad you found the culprit. In future, it would be appreciated if you could please start a new thread rather than hopping into someone else’s, as it can confuse things when the issue is not actually the same, as looks to be the case here. 🙂 Thanks!

    Please read my original message.

    @cookiemonster258 I re-read your original message.

    When you said:

I have turned off all the plugins and switched to the default theme but the problem occurs.

Could you please clarify whether you actually mean you deactivated all plugins or all plugins except the Classic Editor? Thanks!

    (@cookiemonster258)

@zoonini I initially deactivated everything but now revisited it and tested it by just deactivating WooCommerce and that fixed it! Classic Editor works the way it used to. The publish immidiately option is there again.

Any chance for you to make it compatible with WooCommerce or are you going to throw the ball to their court? Which will then basically leave this in limbo.

Just to add, the block editor works for me whether WooCommerce is active or not.

Hi @cookiemonster258 this is something that needs to be fixed on WooCommerce’s end because the developers are the ones who are familiar with the plugin code. They are in the best position to know what was changed which could have caused this issue.

The developers have responded to the forum issue, they said this will be fixed as per this GitHub report:

    https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues/38075

I will suggest keeping track of that to see when this will be resolved, also feel free to share your experience on the bug report.

@cookiemonster258 @dfc005 Looks like this will be fixed in version 7.7.0 of WooCommerce:
