WP RSS Aggregator
[resolved] Post from feeds not showing (35 posts)

I posted previously with a detailed description of this problem:
    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/rss-feed-does-not-show-on-page-1
but thought that it was resolved.

It is not. I still have this problem.

It was resolved for the feed mentioned in the previous post by doing some arbitrary changes to the (name of the) Feed Source.

The same issue popped up with another feed called Lessrof: the posts from the feed did not show on the page or on "Imported Feeds" but did show on the "edit feed" details page. I changed the name of the title of the feed to Lessrof2 and suddenly the posts reappeared.

I have now noticed a similar problem with two other feeds. It is the feeds from my own two blogs:
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/BkwineMagazine
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/bkwinemagazinesvenska

Those two blogs used to show in the publicly visible listing of recent posts:
    http://www.bkwine.com/sv/reportage/mer/svenska-vinbloggars-senaste-inlagg/
but they suddenly disappeared. The latest posts were no longer showing on the page.

I noticed this on Monday this week and tried the same solution as above: I changed the title of the feeds on the Edit Feed page. It worked. They most recent posts reappeared on the list on the page.

However, now, on Wednesday, they have suddenly disappeared. The posts from those two feeds no longer show on the listing page.

This is a very troublesome error to me. The feed aggregator simply does not pick up the posts from some feeds. Very strange.

For what it is worth, I see a similar issue. Some feeds seem to get imported and others do not. I see the feed entries if I directly look at the rss link, and the also show up in the feed preview list.

However, those feed entries do not show up in imported feeds or hence in edited output. Here is one example of a feed source:

    http://www.tdathijs.nl/wordpress/feed/

    and here is another example:

    http://www.cairotocapetownforcf.com/feed/

Is there a way to trouble shoot this further to see why these entries are not importing? Do they import for someone else?

What's the page where you display the posts?

How many feeds are you aggregating?

The page displaying the posts is: http://www.bike2013.com/other-blogs/

I am aggregating 15 feeds. I first went and looked at each of the feeds individually, and noticed that there were 9 feeds that worked successfully followed by 1 feed with a bandwidth error followed by 5 feeds that didn't work:

    worked: http://alanknighttourdafrique.com/feed/
    worked: http://basfietst.com/feed/
    worked: http://blog.getaway.co.za/author/catharinarobbertze/feed/
    worked: http://www.gazetadopovo.com.br/blog/irevirdebike/rss/
    worked: http://feeds.feedburner.com/suitmeetboot/
    worked: http://www.blazingsaddles2013.com/feeds/posts/default
    worked: http://www.jamescampbell.com.au/James_Campbell/Blog/rss.xml
    worked: http://johnpchevis.wordpress.com/feed/
    worked: http://kurtdafrique.wordpress.com/feed/
    bandwidth error - http://bikemind.co.uk/?feed=rss2
    failed: http://www.onyerbikeinafrica.com/1/feed
    failed: http://www.cairotocapetownforcf.com/feed/
    failed: http://tessamelck.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default
    failed: http://www.tdathijs.nl/wordpress/feed
    failed: http://tourdafrique.com/category/updates-from-the-road/tour-dafrique/feed/

I examined worked vs. failed by looking at whether there were posts when I looked at the feed URL vs. whether they showed up as imported feeds (and also in my display above).

I next took the feed that was giving a bandwidth error and moved it to trash. On restarting things, there was now one of the five feeds that also had posts imported:

    failed: http://tessamelck.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default

However, that one was not the next on the list and I couldn't see anything that said why that one should import and others should not.

I am still going to run an experiment later with each of the four failing feeds and see if they individually import into a test blog where they are the only feed.

There is something very strange going on with this plugin.

In my case I import some 80 blog feeds so it is difficult to go through them all. However, some of them are my own and those are of course particularly important for me. And they are not imported correctly.

    This concerns:
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/BkwineMagazine
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/bkwinemagazinesvenska
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/BkwineToursFeed
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/bkwinevinresor

Yesterday I noticed that the post from those feeds were *not* imported correctly although they used to work. The recent posts did not appear in:
    - Imported Feeds admin page, nor on:
    - The front end page displaying the feeds: http://www.bkwine.com/sv/reportage/mer/svenska-vinbloggars-senaste-inlagg/

But the recent posts *do* display on the "Edit Feed Source" admin page for those feeds.

So, yesterday I tried the "fix" that I have discovered: do some minor edit of the name of the "missing" feeds (I added a plus sign) and then save the feed.

Result: the feeds started to work properly again and were displayed.

However, this morning those feeds have disappeared again!

But, again, after having done my "minor edit" trick this morning they now appear again....! But for how long?

@ Mev - Why don't you try the "minor edit" trick and see if it works for you? It has worked for me most of the time (but not always). And then there is of course the problem that after some time the feed apparently disappears again...

    An update:

Every morning I check if these two feeds (as above) are in the "imported feeds":
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/BkwineMagazine
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/bkwinemagazinesvenska

Every morning they are not there. They have disappeared since the previous day.

So every morning I do some minor edit to the Feed Source (e.g. add a '+' at the end of the name of the source) and then they reappear in the Imported Feeds and they then also reappear on the front-end page:
    http://www.bkwine.com/sv/reportage/mer/svenska-vinbloggars-senaste-inlagg/

I don't understand if there is some problem with the feeds or if the plugin is simply unreliable or unstable...

Hello, thanks for your detailed reports, at the moment I don't have a quick solution but I will be working again on the plugin this month, hopefully I'll iron this out and release an update to fix it.

@mev Did you run other tests on the failed feeds? Let us know so we can debug this further.

@mev @bkwineper Can you put up a screenshot of your aggregator settings page, so I try to mirror your setup as closely as possible? Let me know any other details about your setup which might be of interest in troubleshooting.

The Edit feed source screen feed import works independently of the main feed import mechanism, which is why you will see the 5 latest feeds showing up correctly, but then not showing up in the main aggregator.

Whenever you edit a feed source the aggregator will recheck all feeds, which explains why doing the minor edit trick will refresh things and they will show up correctly. The issue seems to manifest itself therefore when the aggregator is doing its own hourly update via cron.

In the meantime I have set up a test site with some of the troublesome feeds that you've mentioned, lets keep an eye on feeds in the coming days, as soon as you notice a duplicate or missing feed let me know so I will see if this happens also on mine.

Here's a screenshot of my feeds at the moment, everything works fine, but I'm monitoring them going forward.

    Jean, thanks for the feedback!

So, what I noticed this morning on duplication: these are the feeds in duplicates on my page http://www.bkwine.com/sv/reportage/mer/svenska-vinbloggars-senaste-inlagg/:

    JC:s Vintankar: http://jcvintankar.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default
    Johan P mat & vin: http://feeds.feedburner.com/johanp
    Cryssanthander & Vin: http://veckansvin.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default
    Lessrof: http://lessrof.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default
    Finare Vinare: http://vinare.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default
Magnus Reuterdahls vinblogg Aqua Vitae: http://vinotinto.wordpress.com/feed/
    Café Rotsunda: http://caferotsunda.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default
    BKWine blogg (svenska): http://feeds.feedburner.com/bkwinemagazinesvenska
(which is one of my own blogs. The English version of this is not in duplicates though: BKWine Blog (English), http://feeds.feedburner.com/BkwineMagazine)
    Champagne och mat: http://champagneochmat.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default

That's the list based on the 50 most recent posts, the number that I display on the page.

Other feeds do display correctly though, with only one post.

    Some more info:

    Screenshots of the admin pages:
    http://www.bkwine.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/feed-sources.jpg
    http://www.bkwine.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/edit-feed-source.jpg
    http://www.bkwine.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/aggregator-settings.jpg
    http://www.bkwine.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/imported-feeds.jpg

I'm running WP 3.4.2 (soon to upgrade to 3.5) and v 2.2.3 of the plugin.

The site where I use this is bilingual, using a plugin called WPML. That's a fundamental plugin for the functioning of the whole site. There has once been a conflict with this and another plugin ("Redirect").

I am with a hoster called WP Engine that provides a caching and CDN function, but it seems strange if that should have any impact on this, since the duplication, as well as the missing feeds, also happen in the "Imported Feeds" admin pages.

Anything else I can give you that could be helpful?

For the moment this either looks to be a plugin issue, although I won't discount hosting (caching especially) altogether for now.

It also appears to be quite random, so it's a tough nut to crack. Let's see how you fare on 3.5 and take it from there.

Here are links to my admin page screenshots:

    http://www.bike2013.com/wp-content/gallery/debug/feedaggregator.gif
    http://www.bike2013.com/wp-content/gallery/debug/feedaggregator2.gif

I haven't done a lot more debugging, but listed above were ones that worked and didn't work. It seems that later versions from:

    failed: http://tessamelck.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default

are getting picked up, though I still need to watch the other feeds to see when they next post things.

I have the same problem. The address of the feed is: http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7745877187481842277/posts/default/-/MMC13. I changed the title from "LernKult 2.0" to "LernKult"; now the feeds are shown on the aggregator page.

Unfortunately, I'm having the same issue. I have 29 feeds but some simply do not show up on the front end no matter what kind of editing trick I try on the Edit Feed Source page. Such a handy plugin and happy to contribute if it works. :(

Just to let you know: moving to WP 3.5.1 (from 4.2) made no difference. The issue remains.

    Sounds good.

Also thought I'd tell you that I did a test in my staging area with most of the other plugins deactivated.

I use quite a few plugins so I thought there might have been some conflict. I deactivated most and only kept the most basic and vital ones:
    Breadcrumb NavXT
    BWP Google XML Sitemaps
    Clicky for WordPress
    Contact Form 7
    Installer
Share Buttons by Lockerz / AddToAny
    Social Media Widget
    Twitter Badge Widget
    Widget Logic
    WPML Media
    WPML Multilingual CMS
    WPML String Translation
    WPML Translation Management
    WP Status Dashboard

It didn't make any difference. Problem still the same.

    Thank you Jean!

FYI, I'm also noticing feed stories disappearing after being there at first. Today, for instance, I saw that the most recent story is 2 days old! A ton of content simply vanished.

    Army,
That's similar to what I see. When I refresh the page, by for instance editing one of the feeds' details contents from some "vanished" feeds reappear. One day later, when I check the page again, those feeds that reappeared in yesterday's refresh have again disappeared.

    Looking forward to v3!

For what it's worth, I seem to be having the same problem. Here is my "feed display page" for lack of a better description...
    http://soleragroup.com/news

And here are the three feeds I am trying to display:
    http://freshome.com/feed/
    http://www.home-designing.com/feed
    http://www.houzz.com/getGalleries/featured/out-rss

As you can see, only one of the feeds is displaying.

I look forward to a resolution.

    Jean,

Any estimate of what "soon" might be?
    ;-)

Or perhaps the possibility to test a beta version on my staging site?

Hey Per, it's actually very soon, I'm currently testing it on a few of my own sites to iron out any obvious bugs, expect to see it online in the coming week. Its been a big code rewrite and there are some new features too, I hope it will have been well worth the wait.

The new update is out, once you update run it for a few days and let me know if you still have the problems. I've changed the way feeds are imported so hopefully this issue will be solved, if not I'll get back to work on finding a solution.

Tried to upgrade and it did not work.

Got an error message "Could not copy file. /nas/wp/www/..." when updating the plugin on the WP panel.

Not sure if it is a plugin problem or a problem with the hoster, or something else.

    Do you have any idea?
