    Hello

This new support thread has been open at the request of the moderator of that support thread:
    Unable to save changes

    The problem:
It is not possible to publish content with the block editor.
Also, for old content created with the classic editor, the changes made with the block editor are not saved.

Using the Classic Editor plugin, the classic editor works.

The problem remains when all plugin are deactivated.

The problem remains with the latest version of the gutenberg plugin.

The problem remains whatever the theme.

The problem remains using different browsers and when clearing the cache.

We suspect that the problem may be related to the REST API.

    Best regards.

    Hi there,

We suspect that the problem may be related to the REST API.

Could you provide more details about your suspicions regarding the REST API?

    Hello Kathryn

We suspect that it is related to the REST API because we have a similar problem with a plugin that we use: metaslider, that also use the REST API for saving its content and settings.

Here is the thread on the metaslider plugin support forum.

    Best regards.

Hi @matthieulllrc – the last thing you said in that other thread is that you suspected a server configuration issue. Have you had a chance to explore that angle?

I’d definitely suggest asking your system administrator to help you do that, such as:

    – checking the server logs to look for any errors
    – checking server permissions to ensure that nothing is being blocked on that end, such as with a firewall, or server settings

I’d also suggest doing what the Metaslider dev suggested:

To look for a server issue, start by testing on a 2nd site on a different server. Can you see the same issue?

This could even be a localhost site.

The problem remains with the latest version of the gutenberg plugin.

Are you still having this issue with the Gutenberg plugin deactivated? The plugin is only needed to get experimental features before they are in core, so I suggest leaving it inactive.

    Hello Kathryn

Yes, I am in contact with the web server admin.
We did a lot of testing and we are unable to find the source of the problem.
    We are still searching…

checking the server logs to look for any errors

There are no errors in the server logs.

checking server permissions to ensure that nothing is being blocked on that end, such as with a firewall, or server settings

We will verify those aspects. Good idea, thank you!

To look for a server issue, start by testing on a 2nd site on a different server. Can you see the same issue?

We have another server with the same version of PHP and WordPress, same theme and Gutenberg works perfectly. The main difference is that it is in multisite mode, which should not matter.

Are you still having this issue with the Gutenberg plugin deactivated? The plugin is only needed to get experimental features before they are in core, so I suggest leaving it inactive.

Yes, the problem happens with or without the Gutenberg plugin.
I just installed it to see if it could fix the problem, we don’t normally install it.

    Best regards.

    Hello Kathryn

    Good news!
We have found (almost) the source of the problem:

    Our site is behind Akamai.
We tried accessing the website directly and Gutenberg works.

So now we know that it’s something in the Akamai config, either for the cache or for the Web Application Firewall.

When we find the specific cause, I’ll update this thread in case it can be useful for other people.

    Best regards.

@matthieulllrc I’m so glad you tracked down the source of the issue! Hope you can get it sorted out.

I’ll mark this thread as resolved, but do feel free to return if you pinpoint the specific problematic setting.
