Support » Fixing WordPress » Possible to create short URL but leave a long headline?

I’m working on a site that has very long titles of lectures and classes that serve as the headline of each page. However, these very long titles get translated into the URL.

In some CMS’s I’ve worked with, there’s a field that called short URL that allows you to manually change the URL for the page, but allow you to keep the headline you want people to see. (I’m not talking about short URLs generators through or anything like for external use like for twitter).

I’m wondering if there is a way to do this in WordPress?

for example, if my headline (name of lecture) is:

“From the Grain Sieve of the Ancient World to the Modern Puerto Rican Plena: Tracing the Roots of the Latin American Tambourine”

how can I keep that in the <h2> area but then have the URL be something like:

I have a feeling this can’t be done as I haven’t found any information on it, but thought I’d throw it out there.

  • Yes, it can be done. On the Edit Post screen, you can edit the “Permalink” (which sits just below the title of your post). Simply edit it, save it, then update your post.

That was easy! Don’t know how I missed that. Thanks so much.
