Possible to create a WordPress store from scratch (without WooCommerce)?

    I’ve been building custom WordPress themes for a while now, and I’d like to build custom stores too.

    Personally, I hate WooCommerce. It’s way too messy and hard for clients to use. Plus, I don’t like wading through all the unnecessary code, when I just need something simple.

    So… how difficult would it be to build a store theme completely from scratch? Would handling payments be unsafe/impossible without a plugin like WooCommerce?

    Probably very difficult. There’s a lot of moving parts. But nothing is impossible. If it’s just Woo you hate, there are other store plugins.
