Possible to change sitemap.xml layout?

I was wondering if it’s possible to change the way that the sitemap.xml is laid out?
For example:
Rather than categorising them by date:
http://website.co.uk/sitemap-pt-post-2014-01.xml
http://website.co.uk/sitemap-pt-post-2013-10.xmlIs it possible to change it to order by parents for better navigation/structural views?
http://cawilde.co.uk/page1.xml
http://cawilde.co.uk/page1-child
http://cawilde.co.uk/page1-child2
http://cawilde.co.uk/page2.xmlIs it possible, and also is it the best thing to do (Or is keeping it how it currently is better?)
