Possible? / Suggestion – Force resize all but Featured

Looking to do the following –
I have many images, and many per post. In each post, we choose a “featured image” in the system. That image has multiple sizes used in category and front page archives. Slider, large splash, medium thumb, etc. So we want to keep those untouched.
We do however, want to remove all non-standard sizes that aren’t in use anymore, for all other images.
Is there a way to…
Force Regenerate Thumbnails on whole system as normal, but, choose to omit any image marked as a “Featured Image” within the system.
That would clear out old alternate sizes for most images, but leave our Featured ones alone which may be using those alt sizes in archives etc.
If not possible, I’d like to offer it as a suggestion.
