I go to a school called Meridian Technical Charter High School. I am currently the school intern and do things like manage the website, help teachers make posts, you name it. Currently we are using your plugin on the site to show parents, teachers, and students all of the different events going on around the school.

Your plugin works great for showing and linking people to events, but something we think the average user would expect is to be sent some sort of calendar page when they click on the title of the calendar. Right now I go into the plugin editor and put an anchor tag over the title so that people can click on it and go to our calendar page. This works fine, but if I ever want to update the plugin the anchor tag will of course go away.

I was hoping you could possibly make an addition to the plugin, being a link in the title so that my school site and other people in similar situations can link their users to their calendar. Once again really great plugin, I look forward to hearing back from you.

    Hello Jordan,

knowing that the plugin is being used in education contexts makes me – and surely everyone that contributed to it – very happy

The plugin editor unfortunately is a ‘bad’ feature in WordPress because, just as you experienced, it doesn’t let you retain your changes. Whenever you hack third party plugins or themes this will happen, built in editor or not. Files that belong to third party components or WordPress core will update and the update overwrites the changes.

I haven’t fully understood what you are trying to do. Perhaps a link to the school site with your edits or screenshots would be helpful.

    Hey Fulvio,

Sorry for never replying. I never got an email that you replied to my original post. Here is the link to the website if you are still wondering about it. http://www.mtchs.org/

As you can see on the left side of the page we have a Calendar section. Clicking on the calendar title will bring you to our calendar page (this is because of the anchor tags I put around the title in the plugin editor). What I wanted was some place where you could put a link for the title of the plugin (the title is in this case “Calendar”) so that I wouldn’t have to go into the backend and change it anytime I updated the plugin.

Thanks for responding to my messages, once again sorry for replying so late.

    Jordan

    no worries Jordan,

    feedback is always welcome

the widget is going to change a bit in the upcoming beta (https://wordpress.org/support/topic/simple-calendar-30-beta-now-available?replies=19) – it’s going to be simplified a bit, but that also allows for a few options that make sense, like custom text before/after the calendar and maybe link the widget title to a custom URL (three text fields, or maybe 2 textareas for the custom text before/after). The only two other setting in the new widget would be the widget title and the calendar you want to display.
