Support » Plugin: ShortPixel Adaptive Images » Possibility to choose between the AVIF and WebP

  • Hi,

Whether it is planned to add functionality, the user can choose whether he wants his images to be converted to AVIF or only in WebP format.

AVIF is not supported by the Edge browser, but its users are quite a large group and it is definitely unacceptable to see broken and missing images in places where the images should be.

Hello @bobolinps – while I totally agree with you that seeing broken/missing images is unacceptable!
We had a case recently and was caused by a caching issue.
If this happened to you could you please update the plugin to its latest version, flush the caches and then try again to see if the problem persists?
If so, please contact us here with more details:

As for your question: do not plan to add this functionality as it shouldn’t be needed.
We automatically detect, via our CDN, whether the browser supports AVIF, WebP or none of these and return the image in the appropriate image format.

    Best regards,
    Alex

    Hi Alex,

Thanks for the answer, but what happens if a CDN other than yours is used? Does the automatic detection functionality you mentioned remains workable?

This can work with other CDNs as well but they need to support this kind of feature and send the “Accept” header received from their customers.

    Regards,
    Alex
