 * I’ve installed the Portfolio Slideshow plugin but I can’t seem to get it to work.
 * I’ve tried everything from the read me file, but it won’t show up even in a default
   theme.
 * As far as I can tell the code is generating properly, so I feel like it should
   be an easy fix that I’m not seeing?
 * Help please!

 * First things first – you should probably update your version of WordPress. I
   don’t know if that’s what’s causing the problem, but I don’t test on earlier
   versions of WP anymore so it makes it harder to troubleshoot.
 * 2nd: can you send me a screenshot of the options page? I think something went
   wrong in the latest version of the plugin and certain options are not behaving
   properly. For example, if you’re trying to hide the nav & use the loader.gif,
   the slideshow doesn’t show up. I’m still trying to work out the kinks.
 * You may want to try an earlier version of the plugin (5.0) and see if that works
   for you.

 * 5.0 works splendidly.
 * Thanks.
 * <Don’t particularly want to update to newer WordPress and lose all the editing
   I’ve done.>

 * OK, that pretty much answers my question then, and I’m glad to hear it works
   for you! There are definitely a few kinks to work out in the latest version of
   the plugin. Eek.
 * In general, updating your WordPress shouldn’t lose any data at all, unless you’ve
   modified the core files, which is not recommended. But if you’re talking about
   theme, plugin, post & page content, you shouldn’t lose anything at all in the
   upgrade. It’s worth backing up just the same, but the chance of getting hacked
   goes up with older versions of WP. Just some advice.
 * Cheers,
    Dalton

 * Well I’ve modified all the .php files within the theme. And I heard the loop
   changes in the 3. versions and becomes a separate file?

 * Yes, the default theme in 3.0 has a very different structure than the old one,
   including a very advanced loop, but that’s completely optional. Existing themes
   should continue to work fine, for the most part. (I’ve upgraded dozens of sites
   with custom themes with no problems). Plugins are occasionally more trouble,
   but I’ve not had many compatibility problems.
 * It’s worth keeping in mind, anyway. Definitely make a backup and run the upgrade
   on a test site first, if you can.
