    Great plugin!

Could you explain me why Postman recommends port 587? GoDaddy mentions port 465 in the configuration. I read this but it is too specific, does it have a performance or security improvement?

I’m on a GoDaddy server and I had bounce back errors “552: Message rejected for spam or virus content” in the past days. After complaining everywhere, they remove me from their filters :). So, now I’m moving to authenticated SMTP.

    • 25 is an official mail port, no encryption
    • 465 is an unofficial mail port, with SMTPS encryption, partly because of Microsoft (of course)
    • 587 is an official mail port, with STARTTLS encryption

Postman will prefer, in this order: 587, 465, 25

Spam or virus content is something completely different. The port you use won’t make a difference there.

    Cheers 🙂

I know, I mixed things, that paragraph was referring to why I move to this plugin 🙂

So, there is no difference regarding performance/security?

No. Both 465 and 587 use TLS/SSL, if it’s done correctly.

Some SMTP plugins, like WP Mail Bank, secretly disable SSL to prevent users from seeing errors.
