• Hello,

I am currently using the Specific Content For Mobile plugin (version 0.5.4).
I have noticed that as soon as I deactivate the plugin, Google can no longer index my homepage.

    Here are the details:

    • With the plugin activated, the site is fully visible to Google (also confirmed in the Mobile-Friendly Test and PageSpeed Insights).
    • When the plugin is deactivated, I can still access the site normally in my browser, but Google Search Console reports that the page cannot be indexed. PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix also show errors in that case.
    • The plugin adds the parameter ?scfm-mobile=1 to the URL.

    My question:
Why does the plugin affect the indexability of my site, when it should only handle mobile content output according to its description?
Do I need to manually add certain meta tags, headers, or other settings when deactivating the plugin to maintain indexability?

    Thank you for your support!

    Best regards

    Hi @kalusha

I suggest you read the FAQ As I deactivate the plugin, Google can no longer index some pages. Why?

The parameter ?scfm-mobile=1 is added to avoid cache-related issues. Many users don’t realize that their cache needs to be configured to serve separate caches for mobile and desktop. You can read more about the problems caused when the same cache is used for both here.

Even after explaining why a separate mobile cache is necessary, about 90% of users still reported cache issues. That’s why we introduced the ?scfm-mobile=1 parameter.

I now realize it would be better to display a clear notice when the plugin is deactivated, inviting the user to read the FAQ mentioned above to avoid indexing problems. This improvement will be included in the next version.

To fix the issue, please follow the steps described in the FAQ.

    I hope it helps

    Have a great day!

    Jose
