Populating the Uploads with existing images

    I’ve been using the Image Manager plugin to upload my images and recently switched to using the built-in WordPress uploads tool.

    I am pointing the uploads to the same image folder all my images are in, but the images that already exist there are not showing up as Uploads in WordPress. Is there a way to get them to show up? Do I have to upload each one again and overwrite the old?

    I was hoping WordPress would just read the existing images right from the drive rather than creating a database record that points to the images.

    will this get solved finaly? it’s very annoying especially when you switch from another blog and did a bulk transfer of all pictures with http://ftp..
