Support » Plugin: Hustle - Pop-Ups, Slide-ins and Email Opt-ins » Pop-up not updating on front of site AND unable to add people to MailChimp

    Problem #1:

The form I designed in the dashboard doesn’t match the form that is displayed to the users.

    • How it looks in the dashboard
    • How it looks on the site
    • I have deactivated every single plugin except for Hustle and it does not work. I have cleared my browser cache and it does not work. I use “?nocache=1” while testing it and it doesn’t work. I activated the “2017 Theme” and it did not work.

Literally nothing I do updates the popup on the front end of the site.

    Problem #2:

When I try to use the popup, I get the following error message:

An error occurred. Please try again later.

When I check the log files, it says to make sure my form fields are mapped correctly to my MailChimp fields.

I have checked 4 different times and tried many different combinations of names and texts and whatever in the form builder, always using the values that are defined in MailChimp, and nothing works.

    • My integration is setup correctly
    • My form fields match my MailChimp fields

I keep using your plugin on sites I develop because it’s one of the only one that gives away a free exit-intent possibility. But every single time on every single site, it is the biggest pain in my ass to setup. There is always some nuance or some setting or some ‘something’ that needs to be changed, updated, or modified.

For all the positive ratings and reviews this plugin gets, I find it absolutely horrible to use. It’s only because there are no better options.

Why does this always have to be so difficult???

    Hi @sandeld,

Sorry to hear you’re having issues with Hustle, we try our best to make it work in most cases but it highly depends on plugins and theme used on site.

Backend preview of the popup can easily be different since the theme CSS code is not loaded in the backend and if it affects the popup on frontend you would end up with different results.
Can you tell me how to trigger popup on your site so we can check the CSS and test the subscription form?

    Cheers,
    Predrag

I had it deactivated since nothing was working. It’s back on again and it should trigger on any page as soon as it loads.

I understand how themes and plugins and conflicts work, but it doesn’t make sense that it doesn’t even work with ZERO plugins on the default 2017 Theme.

    Hi @sandeld,

Can you try editing your popup and in Design tab under the selected styling enable “Customize colors” option and without changing anything else just save your settings and see if the proper colors are shown on frontend now.

As for the subscription issue, I just subscribed two times without any issues and on the second one I created a short video:

Can you tell me which browser and OS you are testing this on and if you can see anything in the video that I’m missing?

    Cheers,

    Interesting (and unbelievably frustrating).

    Colors:

Yes, turning on the customize colors option worked. <— Infuriating beyond words!

    Sign-up form:

I think I found the root of the problem. The form FAILS any time I try re-use an email address that has previously been entered into MailChimp. For example, I used my personal email address for testing WooCommerce with MailChimp several weeks ago. Once I was done, I unsubscribed and deleted that email address from MailChimp. However, now, when I try to use that email address again, the form submission fails. Likewise, if you go back and try to sign-up again using ‘test@mail.com’, it will fail for you, too!

I’m not sure if that “error checking” is done with your plugin or it’s some kind of info that gets sent from MailChimp, but it’s highly annoying and it needs to be removed or bypassed so that someone can opt-in again if they’ve changed their mind.

Using a brand new email address, ‘test2@mail.com’ for example, will assuredly work. Try it out and let me know.

    Hey there @sandeld

I’m glad that you sorted out the colours part.

I was able to replicate the subscription issue in a testing site of mine though, so I’ve already created a bug report for our developers.
Even if I was deleting a user from the Mailchimp list, when I try to re-subscribe him, I get a “Something went wrong” message.

Me or another colleague of mine will keep you posted here, about any development of this.

    Warm regards,
    Dimitris

    Hello @sandeld,

Once I was done, I unsubscribed and deleted that email address from MailChimp. However, now, when I try to use that email address again, the form submission fails.

This is a limitation of the MailChimp. When using API then don’t allow to re-subscribe the same address that was already subscribed to list.
In a case like this same address can be only added manually to list.
You can still test your email using + – like youremail+test@gmail.com.
Even random email aksdbgekj@xzkhfsdi.com should work.

    kind regards,
    Kasia

That’s a pity since so many other plugins offer this kind of “update” feature (not necessarily popup plugins, but just plugins that integrate with MailChimp in general).

I’m not an expert on the API, but I know there’s a difference between “adding” a subscriber and “updating” a subscriber. Perhaps your plugin could make use of that, because I cannot use your plugin the way it currently is.

    Hi @sandeld,

I checked with the direct Mailchimp integration and it seems that they don’t update the email as well, there’s only an option to send you an email with a link to update your preferences.

I’ll pass this over to our dev team to see if we could add something like that 🙂

    Cheers,
    Predrag
