  • I think they made this Automated Tax Plug-in So bad, they get you to buy their premium plugin.

In NC, tax is calculated by county/zip code. Also, tax is only charged if we are shipping to NC residents. On top of that, NC food/beverage items are taxed only at 2%. Shipping is taxed based on the item.

This program does none of this properly.

    Hello @marcpope, @gotwickdotcom,

I think they made this Automated Tax Plug-in So bad, they get you to buy their premium plugin.

My apologies for the poor experience you’ve had with the Automated Tax feature. It’s worth noting that we (Automattic/Woo) don’t have a premium plugin for taxes.

In NC, tax is calculated by county/zip code.

Street-level accuracy has been missing from our Automated Tax feature until now – please update to version 1.16.0 which includes this.

Also, tax is only charged if we are shipping to NC residents

Unless you have a Tax Nexus in the states you’re shipping to, you shouldn’t be required to collect taxes. This article helps explain it more: https://blog.taxjar.com/sales-tax-nexus-definition/

On top of that, NC food/beverage items are taxed only at 2%.

In order to properly tax a food item, the product has to be categorized as such. I know this isn’t very intuitive, my apologies for that.

The instructions here are applicable to WooCommerce Services automated tax and will help you set up a “Food & Groceries” tax class that you can use for your products: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/taxjar/#product-taxability

Here’s an example of 2% tax being applied on my test store (using the latest version of WooCommerce Services – 1.16.0):

Whoops! I misread – yes, please open support tickets vs. reviews if you’d like timely responses!
