Support » Plugin: Polylang » Polylang and Advanced Custom Fields 'Options' Plugin

  • Hi
Hope you can help. I’m using Polylang and ACF on a site for a French client. We’re offering both English and French translations of the respective pages. All-in-all both plugins are working well together. The only issue currently seems to be with Polylang and the Options add-on plugin for ACF.

I can ‘t seem to correctly set this up for translations. When I do – it will only show my the English version duplicated on each of the following: ‘Show All Languages’, ‘English’ and ‘French’. I therefore have 2 boxes showing the same content. When I edit one of the boxes – it’s replicated in the other box and then shown on both English and French page versions. There is no differentiation between the boxes.

If I re-setup the custom fields – with the French version first – I just see the French duplicated in both boxes.

I have looked for further support but have found nothing that is directly linked to the ACF Options plugin.

I have de-activated ‘Synchronization’ for ‘Custom Fields’ and ‘Page Templates’ only. And have a static front page – but the issue is site-wide rather than page specific. I’m using the Options plugin to control the content for each respective language footer. And finally I’m currently using WordPress 3.8 (but the issue was apparent in 3.6 and 3.7) and the latest version of Polylang.

    Many thanks for your help.

  • Hi Robin,

I’ll just jump in here and let you know that polylang cant support the acf options page since this is not a post or in any way a translatable page. WPML is the same..

    Your options are:

    1. Create different fields for each language and use field name like langcode_fieldname and output them accordingly using the polylangs current language code.
    2. Create a page called something like “sitewide options” and put all the acf fields there.. then you can translate it as you wish

    Hi Jonathan
Thanks for this – that makes total sense. It’s a shame as the Options plugin is ideal for tailoring content. I thought I might have to create a page or post for the footers if I couldn’t get it to work – so that’s taken care of.
At least there is a workaround to it all….

What I’ve used to work around this problem, is to make use of ACF’s Tabs to split different languages’ custom fields to their own tabs on the Options page. This makes the admin view uncluttered and easy to use.
