Support » Plugin: Seriously Simple Podcasting » Podcast wont play or download. Link issue?

  • Hello, I love the plugin you guys have. things were working great this year. The other month my hosting plan was updated. Now a guest noticed they cant play or download my podcasts on my site. I also have the same issue.

I cant seem to figure out what is causing this. but i do notice that in my media folder if i click on the audio file the url is different than the url in the download link on the podcasts actual page. I dont know how or what that is happening and I cant figure a way to remedy this.
I asked my hosting company and they told me,

“I’m sorry you’re having difficulties with this issue. Upon review it appears to be an issue with the way the plugin interacts with NginX upon investigation. I started off by checking the logs, which I disabled the debug logging I enabled to establish my research. As per the documentation below this is a server configuration issue, and you are on a shared hosting resource we would not be able to make the required modifications for your user. However, a VPS would allow you both NginX and the ability to make custom configurations.”

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hello @gudkarma

We are aware of the problem with nginx configurations and are working on a solution for this issue. In the meantime perhaps you could try the solutions suggested on this support thread?

    Regards

I appreciate someone getting back to me, however if that link is supposed to be a support page for the run-of-the-mill person then its seriously lacking information. I have no idea what a server directive is..or what that would be found. nor what exactly the steps are to insert exactly what.
I think for now I am giving up on having my podcasts work as before.

    Hi @gudkarma

The article contains information for both non technical and technical users. If you read further down it does say ‘If you have this issue with your audio files, but you have no idea if your server is built on nginx or not, then please contact your host and send them the link to this guide.’

Unfortunately the problem is not related to the plugin, but in how the nginx server processes the download request.

As I said earlier we are working on ways to work around this on nginx environments.
