# Plugins will not update

    The website is [http://www.toursofoxford.org](http://www.toursofoxford.org)
   For some reason, I cannot update ANY of the plugins because they cannot delete
   the file. Here is the transcript:
 * Updating Plugin Akismet (1/1)
    Downloading update from [https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/akismet.3.0.4.zip…](https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/akismet.3.0.4.zip…)
   Unpacking the update… Installing the latest version… Removing the old version
   of the plugin… Plugin update failed. An error occurred while updating Akismet:
   Could not remove the old plugin.
 * This happens with all of the themes.
 * I do not think it is a server issue because all my other websites work just fine.
 * Any ideas gratefully received!

 * Double check the permissions of the plugin folder, and the individual plugin 
   directories.

 * If you have FTP access, you can usually use the FTP program to check them.

 * Hi Matt, Thanks for your help.
 * I eventually went through cPanel and tried testing all the various permissions
   but it did not have any effect. Also, I could not even upload any plugins.
 * The permissions are set to the same as all my other sites, so I’m guessing it
   is more likely a WP / theme fault.
 * Any other clues?

 * And have you tried deleting Akismet manually? And then reinstalling from the 
   Dashboard?
