As I have found Wordfence to be a good tool in the war against malware I have been adding the free version to my sites where it is used with multiple other security plugins.

But the more sites I add, the more emails I get telling me that certain plugins need to be updated. The thing is I already use iThemes Sync which sends me one digest email every day that covers all my sites, then from that control panel I can update all plugins and themes, which I typically do once or twice a day.

So I’d much rather continue to get just one digest email from them than multiple alerts from Wordfence, however there is no option to disable just plugin alerts… it’s all alerts or nothing. The amount can be limited, but that does not stop each site from emailing me, essentially everyday with what is a useless alert for me.

There is an existing thread about this topic (that is closed) that lists why there should not be a reason to disable, but I disagree… too many emails that I don’t need and I stop paying attention to them.

    Please consider adding this option.

    Thanks,
    Dave

  • We actually addressed this as far as we are willing to a while back based on customer feedback. That was addressed after that particular topic.

The way it works now, if a plugin has a known vulnerability, it gets a critical label, otherwise, it’s a warning. The checkboxes for critical & warning emails should control those (though there’s no way to say “send me warnings for other types of scan results, but no warnings for plugin updates.) So if you only want plugins updates that address a security alert only select critical alerts, otherwise select warnings and get all of them. While you certainly seem to be on top of things, most people aren’t. We spend a fair amount of time doing site cleanings for people who were attacked via an outdated vulnerable plugin.

Thanks for the reply. I do see your point even though it may not completely align with the way I prefer. So I will no doubt turn off warnings and leave on critical alerts. I can only see my inbox getting further overloaded as I add WF to more/new sites.

The WF docs say “Wordfence sends email alerts on certain events if you have enabled the alerts in this section.” What are the other alerts that will be silenced when I turn it off?

    Thanks,
    Dave
