 * Hi there,
 * A site that I use is missing it’s plugins. I have no idea what is causing this.
   An update has removed all the plugins from the site even though they are still
   on the server in the plugins folder.

 * FYI mac os is not virus free anymore. but the website runs on linux. You said
   you had a backup copy of your site on your computer? Try uploading the wp-config.
   php file you have on your computer to the site. It goes in the root of your site.

 * Just for the mention, every time I load the page, I see a virus blocked by my
   antivirus (I use Avast, a good antivirus).

 * Ok,
 * 1. changed admin password.
    2. Installed Sucuri plugin and ran it. It found the
   following files with the massive amount of code that i posted at the start.
 * wp-config.php
    wp-content/index.php
 * it also created…
    options.php and header.php
 * I am now deleting plugins from the plugins folder and reinstalling using the 
   normal search and install plugins feature.
 * The plugins seem to remember all of my settings etc at this point. Definately
   ramping up security after this.

 * Your process should work ok now, if you followed Questas advice list,
 * You’ll probably need to double check wp-content folder and database tables involved.
 * If all done, I think you can reupload your WordPress to your host.

 * Glad you have had success. After one of my sites was hacked 3 years ago I installed“
   [Bulletproof Security](https://wordpress.org/plugins/bulletproof-security/)” 
   on all my sites. I later upgraded to their [PRO version](http://www.ait-pro.com/)
   which you will find is not very expensive and easier to install. It is in my 
   opinion the best security program for WP. While the hackers try, they have never
   succeeded with hacking my sites since.
