 * When I updated to wordpress 3.8.1 all of my plugins disappeared. Now when I try
   to reinstall them this happens:
 * > Installing Plugin: The Events Calendar 3.3.1
   > Downloading install package from
   > [https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/the-events-calendar.3.3.1.zip…](https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/the-events-calendar.3.3.1.zip…)
   > Unpacking the package…
   > Installing the plugin…
   > Destination folder already exists. /home/luumsorg/public_html/wp-content/plugins/
   > the-events-calendar/
   > Plugin install failed.
 * Any help as to how I can rectify this and get my plugins back? The website doesn’t
   really function without them.

 * What version of WordPress were you running previously?

 * I’m not 100% sure, it was 3.7.something – definitely not the one immediately
before though. Is there anywhere I can look to find out?

 * Do you have a pre-upgrade database backup?

 * I’m not really sure (I’m not very savvy, sorry!). Is it something that I would
have had to actually do? Or does it save automatically somewhere that I’d be
   able to find it?

 * Yes. You should always make regular backups of your database. See [WordPress_Backups](http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups).
 * Try [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Then moving the plugins over and activating them one by
   one.

 * Ah ok, I’ll look into that, thanks,
 * Thanks for your help!
