# Plugins don't work properly

 * So I’ve installed WordPress locally on my Mac.
    I have encountered problems with
   various plugins.
 * I have installed the following plugins:
    External Links Custom Content Portfolio
 * Externals Links – External links (after applied it to global links) don’t open
   in a new tab as it would otherwise do online.
 * Custom Content Portfolio – Tumbnails don’t adapt to the image format, which I
   know they do online with the chosen theme. My photos are rectangular but becomes
   quadratic.
 * The same applies to the tumbnail of Intro Template (I use theme Ravel). Again,
   the tumbnail of Intro Template adapts online but becomes quadratic instead of
   rectangular offline.
 * I know this should work because I have run the theme and plugins online. Shouldn’t
   it work locally too? In the future I want to be able to test drive everything
   locally before publishing online, but if it doesn’t work like it does online,
   it becomes difficult.

 * It could be a compatibility issue with the version of PHP on your local system.
 * In situations like this, it is better to post your concerns on the specific plugin
   and theme support pages.

 * I use the default PHP version 5.5.14. MAMP.
 * Since the theme and plugins are working properly online I highly doubt that there
   is something wrong with them.

 * I’m trying to find a solution to the problem myself because no one seems to have
   any suggestions. Maybe not a common problem?
 * My thought is that it has something to do with ports. I use the default values​​
   8888/7888/8889. Should I use 80/3306 instead?

 * Did you try the support pages for the plugins in question?
 * I have installed many WP sites on numerous MAMP installations on a few Macs using
   the default settings (ports, etc.) and have never had an issue with the plugins
   or themes that I have selected. That said, I always make sure that they are compatible
   with the version of WP that is in use at the time.

 * I got help from MacWorld. I had put the installation in a subfolder and not directly
   in the root. Now I use virtualhost also.
