 * Hi All,
    I know, I know, this topic has been battered to death in the forums,
   but here goes, anyway: When I originally installed 2.5, I had Akismet and Dolly
   in my Admin/plugin. During the install process I uploaded “all-in-one-seo-packet”
   and “meta editor.php”. They both displayed in Admin/plugin, and I activated them
   both. Since then I have attempted to upload “smart youtube”,”stats.1.2.1,” and,
   finally, “wp automatic upgrade” (this last, trying to upgrade to 2.5.1). None
   have appeared in Admins/plugin. All appear in wp-content/plugin/…. as items under/
   plugin. It’s my understanding they are supposed to be there. Correct?
 * Any ideas as to what I’m supposed to do to get them to show in Admins/plugin
   so I can activate them?
 * Gene

 * I’m bumping this up, because I’m kinda dead in the water ’til I get this problem
   resolved.
 * Lots of info on this problem, but answers don’t seem to answer my problem specifically.
 * Thanks

 * Are the plugins installed correctly? Some tell you to upload only the php file,
   some tell you to upload just a subfolder, and some tell you to upload the entire
   folder.
 * It may just be a typo in your post, but it’s wp-content/plugin**s**

 * **bumping this up again!** Iridiax was kind enough to answer, but answer didn’t
   solve my question.
    No sense in my continuing my blog until I solve some the
   existing problems. None of you owe me squat, but would appreciate some input.
   Surely I’m not the only one who’s had this/these hangups with WordPress.
 * Thanking you in advance.

 * you **didnt** answer his question. you need help fine, but not answering questions
   doesnt help us to help you.

 * [ self edit so things arent confused more]

 * I want to see a screenshot of your plugin directory please, as you see it when
   you look using an FTP client — thats wp-content/plugins/
 * I would ALSO like to see a screenshot of the inside of ONE plugin directory —
   so pretending that you uploaded a plugin named XYZ I want to see a screenshot
   of whats inside wp-content/plugins/XYZ
 * Until and unless you provide more information, like screenshots OR a textual
   representation of what you have done – No_ONE can help you.
 * 99.999999% of plugin issues are the result of them NOT being uploaded properly,
   ie nested folders. You have not provided enough information to tell you anything
   beyond that.

 * those folders are a 404 because he’s using ‘%postname%’ as his permalink structure.
 * for the sake of us here at the forums, the only way to put that in as your permalink
   setting should be via phpMyAdmin.

 * > why is that a 404?
   > more importantly, why is this a 404?
 * Because this is the URI:
 * [http://hawaii4newbies.com/myblog/wp-content/plugins/](http://hawaii4newbies.com/myblog/wp-content/plugins/)
 * @ Gene:
 * take a look in those folders as iridiax suggests. Take a look in your akismet
   folder as well. There is a errant upload there as well… also…too 🙂
 * Search keyword “nested folders”.

 * ops yeap, youre right clayton 🙂
 * and now that we can peek, we see its the nested folder issue
 * [http://hawaii4newbies.com/myblog/wp-content/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/all-in-one-seo-pack/](http://hawaii4newbies.com/myblog/wp-content/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/all-in-one-seo-pack/)
 * isnt right.
 * you want your plugin files inside here:
 * [http://hawaii4newbies.com/myblog/wp-content/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/](http://hawaii4newbies.com/myblog/wp-content/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/)
 * Notice that you have an extra directory.
 * Scratch the screenshots, not necessary now that clayton has shown me the light
   😉

 * Ok, trying hard to follow instructions.
 * Now have Akismet, wp stats, and seo meta editor advanced,installed and activated
   in WP Admin/plugins.
 * I uninstalled all-in-one from the server side and my ‘puter. Reinstalled just
   as the author instructed. Doesn’t show in Admin. Checked it’s URL and it shows
   Parent Directory and all-in-one … and that’s it.
 * Can Akismet be in successfully installed and displayed in Admin/plugins and still
   be flawed?
 * I’ve got 3 other plugins I want to install, but want to get this all-in-one thing
   whipped first.
 * If you want to proceed with this, I’d appreciate,** but if you’re worn out,**
   I understand that, too.

 * The problem may still be that you have a folder within a folder for all of your
   other plugins. I took another look, and you still have nested folders. click
   here and have a look:
 * [http://hawaii4newbies.com/myblog/wp-content/plugins/](http://hawaii4newbies.com/myblog/wp-content/plugins/)
 * akismet is working because when you click on the folder, you see the files within,
   and not another folder named akismet. Now click on any of the other folders and
   you will see that inside is another folder with the same (or similar name). This
   is usually referred to as nesting. You have one two many “layers” of folders
   for your plugins.
 * Note the links that whooami posted above. The first one is what you have, the
   second is what you want.
 * Let’s use All-in-One as an example:
 * step 1. download the all-in-one zip folder to your desktop.
 * step 2. unzip it.
 * step 3. look in the un-zipped folder. Is there another folder with the same name?
   Probably.
 * step 4. upload the folder that contains the files, _not_ including the first
   folder… oh, boy I’m making this sound harder than it really is. Instead of uploading/
   folder/folder/files to your plugins directory, you need to upload /folder/files.
   Simply one too many folders in most cases …and that’s the meaning of the term“
   nested” folders. That’s about it.
 * By the way, I get a 404 if I go to ://hawaii4newbies.com/myblog/,
    but I get
   your front page if I go to ://hawaii4newbies.com/
 * While you are in the dashboard, you may want to check and make sure that your
   URI’s for your blog are correctly entered and that you are happy with it, then
   double check your permalinks and you should be good to go.

 * HEY, CJ, Whooami, and all,
    Yeehaw! finally got it through my ol’ 76 year old
   calcified mind what I was doing wrong. Absolutely couldn’t have done it without
   your help. Thanks.
 * When using ftp I was clicking on the folder name in the first instance, not clicking
   to the next instance where the actual folder is. Great lesson to learn.
 * OK, as to:
 * > By the way, I get a 404 if I go to ://hawaii4newbies.com/myblog/,
   >  but I get
   > your front page if I go to ://hawaii4newbies.com/

   > URI’s for your blog are correctly entered and that you are happy with it, then
   > double check your permalinks and you should be good to go.
 * Under admin/settings I show WordPress Address (URL) as [http://hawaii4newbies.com/my](http://hawaii4newbies.com/my)
   blog, and Blog Address (URL) as [http://hawaii4newbies.com](http://hawaii4newbies.com)
 * I was advised to do this so my url address would show as [http://hawaii4newbies.com](http://hawaii4newbies.com),
   without /myblog. What’s the downside to having it that way?
 * I’m going to use WP automatic Upgrade to upgrade to 2.5.1, but don’t want to
   screw with success today. Any problems you know of with that upgrade?
 * as is often said in Hawaii: Aloha a hui hou (till we meet again)

 * Holy Lizard, I forgot to say that all the uploads I corrected and attempted registered
   successfully in Admin/Plugins.

 * None, that I can think of… I just wanted you to make sure it was ok for _you_
   because of the way you posted your URI in your profile.
 * Glad to see you sorted it out! It’s a good feeling when it finally clicks.
 * Take care.
