• I uploaded WordPress on 26th November (I include the date because I am not sure what version it is). However, while I can get the included plugins to work, I cannot get ones I seperately upload to work. Some are third party widgets, but some, such as a Google Search bar and Delicious links, are from the WordPress site. Can’t get them to work either.

I put all of them in the Plugins folder, and they show up on the plugins activation page, but when I activate them, their status changes but they do not show up on the site. What do I do?

Some plugins take effect immediately, some require you to do other things. Depends on the plugin.

The third party widgets don’t do anything just by activating them. But, if you go to the sidebar widgets screen, you’ll find that you now have those widgets available to you, to drag and drop into your sidebars somewhere.

Sidebar widgets screen? Where is that? On the ‘plugin’ page where it tells me if the plugins are activated? Dragging and dropping would be sweet if I could find the place to do it from.

Oh, and I cannot get my third party widget to even show up on the activation/deactiviation page, but I am trying to work that out with them.

The sidebar widgets screen is found under the presentation menu for your theme – assuming the theme has been widgetized.

I swear that I cannot find it. My ‘Presentation’ link simply brings me to the screen that shows what themes I can use. The links across the top read ‘theme’, ‘theme editor’ and ‘header image and color’. The theme editor goes straight to where I can edit the code, and there is no sidebar widgets screen there.

Do you have the widgets plugin installed?
Do you have a widgets capable theme?

Widgets are not like other plugins. If you don’t have widgets, then you can’t use widget-based plugins.

You can get the widgets plugin from http://automattic.com/code/widgets .

I got it to work, although my delicious widget does not seem to be working. But i got the sidebar widget page to show up. Cool. Now if I can get third party widgets to work I will rock. Thanks.

I am working on a site for my son’s band; I load the sidebar widget got everything working. I went to the site today to just check on it and it took FOREVER to load and then the main content was gone and everything mess up. I deactivated the sidebar widget pluging and now everything works, reverting back to the regular sidebar. Now, I am using 2.1, a widget compatible theme etc. – it was working just fine. Any clues?
