• I’ve noticed during the past week that some changes I’ve made to my website are being rolled back or disappeared.

For example the Nextend Nested Pages plugin has disappeared after using it for a number of days.

Before that the pages I’d imported disappeared a day or two later as if I’d never added them.

And another plugin for bulk adding pages had disappeared as if it was never there.

    What’s happening?

I don’t have any backup system on my host or my WP installation. So maybe “rollback” is not the right way to describe it because supposedly there’s nothing to rollback to.

What would cause changes which were made successfully and appeared to be fine to vanish a day later?

  • Hello, SeanBanksBliss, & welcome. Truthfully, w/o a site URL, anything one can say is mere speculation. It could be you’re exceeding the size of your host’s database. It could be your site has been compromised (I’ve seen behavior like that when a site’s been hacked). If you’re running a caching plugin, that could be causative. It’s just very difficult to do any sort of investigation w/o the url of the site in question, unfortunately.

I have had something similar happen to me TWICE on Valkyrie-Apparel.com

It also happened on other sites I manage.
    rememorex.com
    marvelcleaners.online

The only plugins those sites have in common are ManageWP Worker, Contact Form 7 and Really Simple SSL.

My host and Manage WP support both say it couldn’t have been them. Unfortunately, it’s not something I can recreate either to do the standard “turn off all plugins and test without them” tasks.

A security scan hasn’t spotted any malware. So I’m royally stumped.

Would love to hear if the OP ever found a solution.

My problem was one of 3 things (I think?)…

    1. I was using a free host with frequent down time and first assumed they just had anbad system.

    2. It might have been my fault as I was trying to edit multiple sites (may have gotten confused as to which one I was using – similarntopics and all.

    3. I had a subdomain and staging site problem in which the subdomain and database site URLs had gotten mixed around, so I’d been editing the live site but database but via the staging domain — forgot to change the config.php database 😛

Either way I’ve moved to a paid host and dont have that problem now.
