[Resolved] [Plugin: Youtube shortcode] Implement wmode=transparent?

  • I’m trying to use the plugin, but have problems with the flash embed appearing on top of drop-down menus, despite z-index settings. The solution seems to be to add the option wmode=transparent to the <embed>. Is there a way to do that besides hacking the plugin? Otherwise consider this a feature request 🙂
    Thanks! /Mats

    Hi matteth,

Thanks for reporting that issue, I’ve already fixed it and released version 1.2 of the plugin.

Please, test the new version and report if it works now, ok?

Also, I’ve solved Wp’s auto installer issue “The plugin does not have a valid header”. From now on my plugins will auto-install without issues.
    Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you Tubal! I will give the plugin another go within a few days, and report back.

Yes. Now my menus float on top of the video. Thanks for your quick response, will use your plugin – great work!

I’m afraid the issue has reappeared now when the plugin uses the new youtube embed-code. It works in Firefox and Safari, in Chrome the flash floats on top of the menus.

    Already fixed, version 1.4 released.
Wait until WordPress updates the plugin page.
    Thanks again for reporting matteth!!

Thanks again for your quick response! I’m marking this issue as resolved.

Hi. I am very new to WordPress so am finding my way round.

I have activated the YouTube shortcode plugin okay. When you say “Place <?php echo do_shortcode(‘[youtube_sc url=any_youtube_video_url]’); ?>” in your templates, can you please explain which of the template files this should go in? I am using a theme downloaded from WordPress.

Can you also give an example of the text you would use in the post entry when embedding a YouTube video? I am simply wanting to embed from YouTube and specify what the height and width of the video is.

    Many thanks!

Thank you for your interest in my plugin but honestly I think you don’t need it for your purpose.

    Check this out: oEmbed

oEmbed is a WordPress 2.9+ feature that allows you to embed videos in posts or pages just by including the video URL in the post/page text editor.

Read the info about oEmbed and test it 😉

My plugin is useful when you need to show videos in areas of your web page not editable by the default text editor for posts and pages or if you need to customize the player’s appearance/behaviour.

    Hope this helps, good luck!!

    Hi Tubal,

Thanks for this great plugin which is very useful; easy to use and great result!

However, I have an issue with the sidebar content being pushed out to the bottom of the page after I added the video frame; or at least it seems to be the case as I have tried taking out the video and successfully got the sidebar content back where it should be.

This is the problem page on my blog:
    http://www.holistically-yours.com/practitioners/sg-practitioners/massage/trager-approach/jessie-kuipers-trager-approach-raw-foods-writer/

I don’t know what the problem is and if the addition of the video caused it.

    Big thanks!

    Hi John,

I’m glad you’re happy with the plugin 😉

I’ve inspected the HTML of your blog and the Youtube video in the sidebar area is not generated by the Youtube shortcode plugin. It seems it’s been placed there manually or using another plugin, so please review your plugins and theme files affecting the sidebar.

    Good luck!

Thanks for coming back so soon with a reply! The video in the sidebar came from the WP theme that I picked up. The strange thing is that when I add your shortcode into the post/page, the content in the sidebar gets shifted to the bottom of the page.

    When shortcode is not used:
    http://www.holistically-yours.com/practitioners/sg-practitioners/massage/trager-approach/symon-ler-foot-reflexology-aromatherapy-massage-trager-approach/

    When shortcode is used:
    http://www.holistically-yours.com/practitioners/sg-practitioners/massage/trager-approach/jessie-kuipers-trager-approach-raw-foods-writer/

Notice that the sidebar content got relocated to bottom of page when I added a video in the post (the one on Jessie)

One other thing I noticed is that after I added these shortcodes in the html mode, I didn’t see the video image come on in the visual mode of the post editor, and when I toggled back to the html mode, somehow the shortcode disappeared and checking the site also confirmed that the video disappeared. I wonder if this instability is caused by the WP theme that I am using.

Thanks again for looing into this!

    @johnn SG:

I’ve updated the plugin to version 1.6 covering what may be happening to you (wrapper div stripped by WP and replaced by a p tag). Check it out and report.

Also note that when using the shortcode in the wp post/page text editor you only need to write the shortcode (you don’t have to call do_shortcode(), WP invokes it for you):

    [youtube_sc url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUD3qUtT3go width=300 rel=0 fs=1]

    Hi Tubal,

Both work perfectly now… Great stuff! Thank you so so much!!! 🙂
