[Plugin: Yet Another Related Posts Plugin] Infected with CHOON.NET.Spam.20110302.7566.UNOFFICIAL

  • Yet Another Related Posts Plugin version 3.2.2

I am not able to upload it to my hosting site. It says

    Upload Status
yet-another-related-posts-plugin.3.2.2.zip (yet-another-related-posts-plugin.3.2.2.zip): Virus Detected; File not Uploaded! (CHOON.NET.Spam.20110302.7566.UNOFFICIAL FOUND)

I’m very surprised about this… The zip archive is not created by me, but by the wordpress.org infrastructure. Is anyone else seeing this?

I have installed previous versions without issue, am currently on Version 3.2.1. My installation procedure is to upload the plugin (which I download from wordpress.org) using file-manager in cpanel into the plugins folder and unzip the upgrade. This time, however, the zip file does not show up, despite repeating the procedure carefully. I then used cpanel legacy file manager and the virus detected prompt showed up. Before I rattle at my host provider for false alarms, I hope someone here can clue me.

tankanh: This is most likely a false-positive reported by your system. I’ve downloaded the same Zip file and run it through several virus scanners … nothing can find any kind of embedded virus or malware.

Have you tried uploading to a different server? Or perhaps using the built-in installer rather than trying to upload the Zip?

I deleted each file and found out that the readme.txt is causing the false positive. Remove the readme.txt and able to install without problems. I shall let my hosting provider know about this. Wonder what phrase triggered the false alert though.

@tankahn Thanks for looking into this more. Hope your hosting figures this out.
