Support » Plugin: XML Sitemap & Google News » [Plugin: XML Sitemap Feed] wp-super-cache ignores v3.8.8 sitemap on WP3.0.1 multisite

  • Hi,
    I am running a WP 3.0.1 Multisite with WP-Super-Cache (Activated by blog admin) with xml-sitemap-feed v 3.8.8

    I have successfully setup xml-sitemap-feed,
then I tried to add the WP-Super-Cache.

The cache is running at PHP-level (without .htaccess)
It has no problem serving the Front page, so it can be considered running.

    when I test the sitemap.xml,
    the source appended:

<!– Dynamic page generated in 0.894 seconds. –>
    <!– Cached page generated by WP-Super-Cache on 2010-10-27 04:07:46 –>
    <!– Compression = gzip –>

    but in Live-HTTP-Headers@Firefox
the WP-Super-Cache header is not appearing.

Also, reloading the sitemap.xml will print a new timestamp

    <!– Cached page generated by WP-Super-Cache on 2010-10-27 04:10:00 –>

Is it actually an issue of XML-Sitemap-Feed or WP-Super-Cache?

    Thank you!

    Regards,
    hoball

    Hi hoball,

Since I’m not running any install with both WP Super Cache and XML Sitemap Feed together, I cannot test this.

It’s in interesting observation and worth investigating. The XML Sitemap Feed plugin creates a new feed (but with xml sitemap markup) and as such, WP Super Cache should not have a problem with it. However, since the sitemap needs to show ALL posts and pages (not only the last few posts) unlike a normal feed, the WP Query has to be adjusted. At that point the process no longer has is_feed() set to ‘true’ but I’ve added code to reset it to ‘true’ immediately after the query.

The fact that the Super Cache comments are appended to the source code shows it is properly recognized as a feed but why it re-generates on every request, I have no idea.

Maybe it’s just because you need to be NOT logged in when viewing the sitemap… Did you log out? Or use another clean browser without any WP cookies!

Or maybe Donncha can say something more meaningful about it?

I’m not sure why he’s seeing that, but he can try the debug system in the plugin, and that will tell him why it’s regenerating the cache.
