• When I tried to publish a password protected post, the full text was still being published to my Wall. Luckily I was just using Lorem Ipsum for the test, I can’t imagine what’d it be like if I had actually posted what I was supposed to.

Would like to know if this is a known shortfall, or nobody realized this yet? What may be the workaround?

  • Hmm. Publishing to the wall was only introduced recently (1.5?) so this may be a new issue I will need to look into.

Were you able to get to the full post or just the bit that gets excerpted to the wall?

(Remember that you may already be logged in to WordPress in your browser so open FB in a different browser to see what someone who isn’t you sees)

As for workaround, if you custom create an excerpt in WordPress that will be used for posting to the FB wall rather than the first N characters of body text.

The body of the post itself in the FB should not be available without the password – this was tested in earlier versions.

I think password protection is something we haven’t yet worked out. I was playing with this a few versions back and was unable to get the site to redirect properly. Maybe I’ll play with this for the next release.

password protection, just can look on admin app facebook account.
try watch with other facebook account.

I dont know about different version 😀

    look It’s Protected post

@omponk is correct – the full post is not visible inside the Facebook application.

It might seem to be so but that’s generally because you’re actively logged in, so you (as an admin) do see it but others won’t.

The complication is the bit which gets published to Facebook, which only happens at publish time.

I’m working on a system for excluding specific individual posts from being published to the wall – either by having a checkbox on the post page itself which lets you suppress posting, or by having a specific tag suppress posting.

Either way, I suppose it would make sense to not post the excerpt to Facebook when the post is password protected – should be in the next major release.

FWIW, password protected posts are also already excluded from the ‘recent posts’ in the profile boxes.
