WP-Table Reloaded
[resolved] associate custom fields/taxonomies.. or import data from posts? (13 posts)

Hi, great plugin from what I've seen so far...

Would it be hard/possible to associate "custom fields and taxonomies" of posts with the table rows/columns?

    example of the first row:
    Author | Custom field X | Custom field Y | custom taxonomy 1 | link to post | title |

If that is not an option could I import data to the tables from posts which would recognize "custom fields" or "custom taxonomies"?

    please share your thoughts...

    Thanks!

    Hi,

    thanks for your post.

No, that is not possible unfortunately. WP-Table Reloaded can only its own custom and static data format.

From what I understand of what you are trying to achieve, you should investigate a custom solution that builds an HTML table inside a WordPress "Loop".
If you then want the sort and search features on this table, you can add it manually by adding the DataTables JS library (www.datatables.net).

    Tobias

    Thanks for your quick reply!

yes, I would like to be able to filter and sort my posts in table...
The thing is I'm building the fronted mini-job posting then I would like to show them in filterable table...

    Cheers!

    Hi,

yeah, then the creating of a custom "The Loop" (not possible without some custom programming in your theme, see http://codex.wordpress.org/The_Loop as a start) will be the best. That allows you to have everything dynamic and automatic.

The only other way would be to manually fill and update a WP-Table Reloaded table all the time when you add/change a post that belongs to this.

    Tobias

I see what you mean, and I agree that "the loop" is a solution but it's cold not be dynamic as tables filtering, because it goes thru the query every time...

    thanks for your thoughts!

    Hi,

but "The Loop" is dynamic, as it would get the current WordPress query data. If you then print this as an HTML table, you can use the DataTables filtering on this without problems.
Or am I misunderstanding something here?

    Tobias

That's what had in mind from the beginning...
now I have to figure out how to "print" (export) posts as HTML table, then I might get what I need...

    Thanks again!

    Hi,

that what you do in the WordPress "Loop": You do a WP Query for all relevant posts, and in "The Loop" go through all found posts, and print the desired data as HTML code, by using the relevant Template Tag functions.

what about importing table from XML or CSV exported wp posts?

there are couple of importing plugins which allows users to set which xml field belongs to which import filed...
    for example "http://www.digitalquill.co.uk/datafeedplugin/"

so if you could create another setting option on "import screen" to select which XML or CSV field should be imported to which Table field, that would be a solution right?

    Hi,

adding such a feature about selecting which XML/CSV field should be imported to which table field is not really a feasible option here, sorry.
Not only is this rather difficult with the plugin's structure, but it would also be out of scope of the plugin.

If a solution using "The Loop" is not feasible for you, you can of course also try to use other tools/programs to create a CSV file that resembles a table and import that. And if that is also not a possibility, you will have to enter the data manually.
Sorry that I don't have a better solution here.

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

Thanks so much for trying to help me out here... I will try to find a way for data-mapping fields ... I saw some xml parser before so I'll try it out...

    cheers!

    Hi,

yes, that's likely the best solution then.

    Best wishes,
    Tobias
