Hi – after consulting with members on http://www.wpsymposium.com it was 100% in favour of removing them and advising site admins to use plugins that devote themselves to this purpose, like Theme-My-Login for example. They are stable, robust, and offer more options.
WPS can then focus on the social networking plugins – as one member said “stay focussed”!

The earlier register module(The default one comes with Symposium) allows a user to login automatically when he sign up. “Theme-My-Login” also have that feature. But it(Automatic login functionality) doesn’t work with Multisite installation when we use Theme my login.
Could you please let me know the alternative mode or a code ?I just need an automatic “login ” for a newly user when he sign-ups.It would be helpful if the same functionality works on sub-sites too
Thanks!
It (the login module) doesn’t exist in WPS any more – I will look at including the registration plugin again, if it’s not going to cause any problems, but the login was raising too many support issues that were really part of WordPress, not WPS, so it won’t be included.
Have a search for other login plugins on wordpress.org and see if any meet your needs.
If I can include the registration plugin with WPS, it will be with the next release (v.39) as I’ll look tonight. If it’s there I’m ok to include it, if it’s not, then I will have decided not to.

Simon,
Thanks a lot! I just need registration module.Login is not needed,I too know that the login module had some bugs.
Have a search for other login plugins on wordpress.org and see if any meet your needs.
I have searched several times. No other plugin supports Multi-site fully. Theme-my-login supports some extend.
BTW,I have a copy of wp-symposium’s old version.
If I can include the registration plugin with WPS, it will be with the next release (v.39) as I’ll look tonight.
I will be waiting.Sorry! for wasting your time
Thanks again!
Hi, I have recently installed Symposium on my site and it really looks amazing. I have the forum page set up, but don’t see any link so people can register when they visit, only “login”. I know the author removed the register features from this latest version, so does that mean visitors are able to register via the login link? Does WP handle this itself, or do I need to install another plugin for this purpose? I would prefer not to install any more plugins. Thanks
Hi Betelguese – the members on the WPS website voted and decided to leave registration and authentication to WordPress (or other plugins).
So you could either add links in your template/on your menu to point to the native login and registration functions, or use plugins like “Theme-My-Login” to achieve an more tailored result.
Thanks Simon,
Ok, I think I’m right in having to check the tick box “anyone can register” in WP general settings, then set it to subscriber. Now when anyone clicks the login link from the Symposium Forum, the register link is available there on the WP login page.
This really looks to be a superb plugin…much needed.

Hi Betelguese – the members on the WPS website voted and decided to leave registration and authentication to WordPress (or other plugins).
I can create it my self if you help me.Could you please help me to use the old register module or create it myself ? Please let me know the code to customize.
BTW…I have not seen about the latest updates of WP_Symposium for a while. Today I have seen the change logs and wondered about the new features. I will definitely spread a word on this plugin
Thanks!
Thanks asshu – I am happy to send you the code that was in the last release you had with the registration and login plugins. Which version was it? Send me a private mail on http://www.wpsymposium.com and I’ll send you that code that was current when they were dropped.
