  • What does “Cache hits to this website for quick access. (Recommended)” do? Does it have to be checked for caching to work — isn’t enough to turn caching on in “Easy” tab to have caching?

It does the same thing as the “On” option on the easy tab. Just make sure it’s checked if you change any of the options in the advanced tab.

Ah, okay, I got it — but it’s weird the way it works.

I used to get annoyed that WP Super Cache would reset my preferences every time I toggled caching. But that was because I’m used to turning it on/off in the Easy tab. Now I see that I don’t have to visit the Easy tab at all. I can turn off caching from the Advanced tab and not have my settings affected. Changes in Easy tab reset Advanced settings.

    M.K.,

Your question and Donncha’s answer helped clarify that behavior for me, too!

I was going back and forth between the Easy and Advanced tab, not realizing they were “linked”. Perhaps the UI could make it clearer by keeping it all on one page. Maybe a fold-down list of the Advanced features could appear underneath the Easy Button (doesn’t Staples have a trademark on that? ;^) ). That might make it more clear that toggling one changes the other settings. When they are on separate tabbed pages, it’s not clear that they are connected. I couldn’t figure out why my settings kept changing either!

They used to be on the same page but I think this is actually easier to understand, especially for new users who can just click “On” in the Easy page.
