Support » Plugin: Slimstat Analytics » [Plugin: WP SlimStat] Others accessing my data through SlimStat

Hi – I discovered a strange user accessing my SlimStat data. I want to block anyone from accessing my data. I put my username only in the Permissions section – but cannot change the “Roles and Capablities” from “read” – if I add only my username, it denies me access to the reports! How can I block everyone through the Permissions page? And how can I block the person who already accessed my reports?
    Thank you –

    Hi

is your Wp Slimstat configured as a separate menu entry in the admin interface? If this is the case, there’s a bug that will be fixed in 2.4.3

    Camu

Slimstat is under WordPress dashboard and settings. I’m sorry, I’m not sure what you mean.
If it’s a bug, what can I do in the meantime to make sure that any random person cannot become a SlimStat user on my blog? There’s another user listed who is a total stranger from another country.
I really like this plugin – but if other people can access my information through it, I will have to uninstall it.
    Thank you –

Hm, I guess there’s a little misunderstanding going on here. Are you referring to the USERS pane under the first tab, when viewing the stats? If this is the case, I guess I will have to change the terminology, because you’re not the first one to point this out.

What that box is listing are “known commenters”, people who have left a comment on your blog or other blogs in the same domain and have a WordPress COOKIE identifying them with a name rather than an IP Address. WP SlimStat is capable of ‘spying’ and detecting the cookie, and so it can track visitors based on their names.

Rest assured, no one that is not a registered WordPress user on your blog is looking at your stats 🙂 They are just being tracked by WP SlimStat as known commenters.

Please let me know if you have questions.

    Camu

OK -it does look like they’re a user but I get it now. Thanks for taking the time to clarify that – I appreciate it. Really do like the plugin a lot!
    Thanks again –

Okay, cool. A vote for my plugin and/or a small donation would be a nice way to thank me 🙂

    Camu

Well, in my case, i have a wordpress multisite install, and in the main site, the users are registered as “registered”, and somehow the wp-slimstat entry in the dashboard appears in the admin panel of the main site, so they can view the stats of the main site!
So i think there’s a small problem here..

Could you please elaborate a little more on your issue? Maybe a few screenshots could help…

    Thanks!

If someone has “registered” access in a blog, the slimstat menu appears for him:

Yes, that’s the way it’s supposed to work. You can forbid the access to these users by going to Settings > Slimstat > Permissions.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Camu

Nevermind.. I didn’t know this was the expected behaviour and that i had to change the options.. thanks!

    No problem 🙂

Hello, i would like to hide the slimstat from everyone, logged in or not, except for the admin accounts.
i just am not able to figure out how to hide it from the subscribers so that only admins have the option to see or even know that it exists.
    thanx.

    Hi there,

go to Settings > SlimStat > Permissions, and enter update_plugins in the Capabilities field. Voilà 😉 Only admins will be able to access WP SlimStat from there.

A vote for my plugin would be a nice way to say thank you!

    Camu

Now that’s handy Camu. Great wizardry on developing this plugin. My vote is in.
