To use custom images, they must be uploaded to the plugin’s images folder. This needs to be repeated every time the plugin is upgraded, as otherwise the images break.
Is it possible to adapt the code so these can be uploaded elsewhere – I’ve seen other plugins do it in a couple of ways; either creating something like a wp-postratings-custom folder in the plugins directory and putting the images there, or putting them in a special folder in your theme directory. Either way, the plugin can then say if (custom folder exists), use that.
