[Plugin: WP-Polls] Sidebar widget fails to vote, but polls work elsewhere

  • I have WordPress 3.3.1 and WP-Poll 2.62. Site: http://www.worldbankpresident.org

I want to display my poll on the sidebar. This was previously working fine with an old poll (simple pick one option poll).

My most recent poll allows users to choose up to three of 10 options – ie in WP-Polls I have enabled “Allows Users To Select More Than One Answer?” with a “yes” and set the number of answers at 3.

Now when the poll is embedded in a post (see here: http://www.worldbankpresident.org/peter-chowla/priorities/poll-what-are-your-priorities-for-reform-at-the-world-bank) it works fine.

But in the sidebar it pops up a box with the folloing error: “Please choose a valid poll answer”.

Note that I don’t think it is an issue of the theme having a problem because the post with the mebedded poll appears on the home page of the blog and voting there works. IE you can vote on the post, or on the snippet of the post that appears on the home page. But not on the sidebar that appears on the home page.

This same failure appears in both Firefox and Internet Explorer and across multiple computers. Any idea why the sidebar widget is not working properly for a multiple answer poll?

    -Peter

  • Yes, had the same issue. It seems to me this is a feature to handle a fringe case (displaying two polls at same time, once in widget, another in post, but only wanting to take in one vote for the user). I wonder if there’s a better way to handle this case. It seems to me that it’s a pretty likely scenario, and two folks have now been vocal about it.

If it isn’t clear, happy to dive a little deeper in the code and see what’s going on, how it could be improved.
