Support » Plugins » [Plugin: WP-OpenID] ID Selector – Any plans to integrate?

  • I may try to hack this in myself, but I really like the idea of JanRain’s new OpenID selector, though having to load it from a remote site is less than ideal. I don’t think it’s a great thing for the comment website field, because it opens the second you click on the field. But adding it to the WP login screen’s OpenID login field from the WP-OpenID plugin would be really nice.

I figure having a 3rd option ‘Add ID Selector to login form’ and a textarea to paste your custom ID Selector JS section would be all you needed. Will post a patch if I get the time to add it in.

  • I hacked it into my login page by updated the login_form function in the openid plugin. Works, though the popup covers the URL field instead of popping up below the field. I dunno – it’s a neat trick, but I figure most OpenID users will know their OpenID URL already. Guess it’s a nice option, but the fact that it loads off a server means you really can’t customize it much – like fixing where it pops up or changing the margin around the button (which seems large) Hopefully it’ll be refined some. I may leave it in, I may not. Still debating.

yes, we’ll probably look into integrating it, though not sure when that will happen. There are several higher priority items, plus we’ll have to figure out the best user experience for it, since the javascript for the ID selector is site-specific at the moment. They are supposed to be working on a non-hosted version, which would likely be the preferred route for including it into wp-openid.
