I need 3 member types for my website.
But, their wordpress type permissions should be “subscriber”

I am looking to allow the different member types access to three different levels of content.

Is there a way to use wp-members as part of this type of solution?
Maybe in combination with something like user-role-editor?

Or, perhaps I should be looking for an entirely different type of plugin.

I like the looks and function of wp-members — and there is very high support activity (not the standard with other plugins that I looked at).

So, I’m hoping this might be part of a larger solution the will help me have more than one subscriber type.

Yes that is do-able. There is a filter hook wpmem_securify that would accomodate restricting content based on user criteria (such as additional meta, etc).

However, as this is a new hook in 2.7.7, there isn’t much in the way of documentation or code snippets yet. But when there is, it will be on rocketgeek.com.

    I’ll look forward to that.

There is a new premium tutorial published on the rocketgeek.com support site that covers blocking content based on user level.

In this simple example, user level is assigned by the admin, and the content for different levels is defined by category (i.e. Silver category, Gold category, Platinum category restricted to users who have Silver, Gold, or Platinum level access).
