Just wanted to start by saying great plug-in very handy. My only issues is that I cannot figure out how to exclude all pages. I want to have the Bio box show on blog posts only and not the pages. I can suppress the bio box on each page, but was wondering if there was a global way to do this.
I checked the settings for WP Biographia and not really seeing anything in there that specifies that option to “exclude all pages”.
Thanks in advance for any help offered.
Hi … The setting you’re looking for is on the Display tab in the plugin’s admin setting and options. If you ensure that Display on Individual Pages is un-checked you should find that the Biography Box isn’t displayed on any of your site’s pages.
Thanks for the reply, but I don’t see that option listed in the display settings for the plugin. The following are the options I see –
Display On Front Page
Displays the Biography Box for each post on the front page.
Display On Individual Posts
Displays the Biography Box for individual posts.
Display On All Post Archives
Displays the Biography Box for each post on all types of Archive page (Author, Category, Date and Tag)
Display On Individual Slides
Displays the Biography Box on individual instances of custom post type Slides.
Display On Slides Archives
Displays the Biography Box on Archive pages for custom post type Slides.
Display On Individual Portfolio
Displays the Biography Box on individual instances of custom post type Portfolio.
Display On Portfolio Archives
Displays the Biography Box on Archive pages for custom post type Portfolio.
Display On Individual Our Team
Displays the Biography Box on individual instances of custom post type Our Team.
Display On Our Team Archives
Displays the Biography Box on Archive pages for custom post type Our Team.
Display On Individual Options Framework Internal Container
Displays the Biography Box on individual instances of custom post type Options Framework Internal Container.
Display On Options Framework Internal Container Archives
Displays the Biography Box on Archive pages for custom post type Options Framework Internal Container.
Display In RSS Feeds
Displays the Biography Box in feeds for each entry.
Display the Biography Box before the post or page content
Display the Biography Box after the post or page content
I have the first three selected and the very last option under display location selected.
Once again thanks for the help,
(scratches head) … that’s really bizzarre. The option should be there, right before the Display In RSS Feeds option. Take a look at the first screen shot here – http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-biographia/screenshots/ – to see what I mean.
What version of the plugin are you running?
That is odd…
I’m using: Version 3.2.1 | By Gary Gale & Travis Smith
Does this plugin have compatibility issues with other plugins?
Also I’m using a template the customer purchased, maybe a template compatibility thing?
Thanks again for your help.
That’s the latest version. There’s always compatibility issues! But these are usually around locally hosted user avatar images or theme CSS. That’s the price you pay for such a rich and varied environment as WordPress.
I can see that you’re using custom post types. Are these maintained by a plugin or directly via the WordPress API, probably in your theme’s functions.php?
I’d like to try and replicate this issue if I can, so the more information about your setup the better – see http://www.vicchi.org/codeage/asking-for-wordpress-plugin-help-and-support-without-tears/ – also it would be helpful to know what plugins you’re using in case there is a compatibility issue.
But for now, I’m going to focus on the way in which your custom post types are interacting with the plugin.
I think there might be a plugin utilizing posts, I have a menu option in the template called “portfolio” when you add an item to the portfolio it treats it like a post. But I don’t see a plugin that came with the template that controls the portfolio.
Here is what I have in the way of plugins –
Category Posts Widget – Active
Contact Form 7 – Active
Jetpack by WordPress.com – Active
Page Links To – Active
Slideshow Gallery – Active
WP-PageNavi – Active
Biographia – Active
The template was purchased from template monster – http://www.templatemonster.com/demo/39075.html
The site is not hosted on wordpress.com, It’s self hosted, not by me but my clients IT group.
Thanks again for all your help,
Sounds like the custom post types are created/maintained by the theme. Any chance you can let me have a copy so I can take a look?
Sure, do you need the whole template zip file?
What is the best way to get it to you?
Email should be fine, providing it’s not too big.
Contact details are over at http://www.garygale.com …
Got the template. I’ll take a look next week as soon as I’m able to.
Hi Gary – I have the same issue. I am trying to eliminate the problem. First, I have the following same plugins
Akismet – active
Contact Form 7 – Active
Biographia – Active
and my theme uses custom post types.
I have turned off all the plugins and custome post types, but still no page checkbox.
I am using a theme that is a child theme to the twenty-eleven, so I figure the issue is in there somewhere.
In the mean time, on your Exclusions page, I just copied all users to be excluded from pages (the last option) as a temporary fix until I can get this worked out. If I do, I will post my solution here.
Just an fyi.
update – I unchecked the Display on All Archives option, then the individual options showed up… that is where the individual page option is showing, where you can turn off the author’s bio globally for individual pages. problem solved.
And just like that, you found the bug. I can’t believe I didn’t see it before; I’ve lost count of the amount of time I’ve spent trying to track this down and yet there it was – staring me in the face.
Once you’d pointed it out, it was the work of less that 5 minutes to find the place in the code which renders the Admin Display tab and to see that the closing
div, which was supposed to surround the breakdown of the specific archive page types had extended to include the Display On Individual Pages setting. One line of code change later and the bug is fixed and the Display tab is working as it should have been all along.
I’ll roll this bug fix up into the next version of the plugin, which is 99% code complete and just needs testing and the bug fixes and new features documenting and then I’ll push the release out. It’ll probably be a week or so before I’m ready to do this.
Once again, thanks for pointing this out and for finding the bug in the first place.
