# [Plugin: WordPress.com Stats] Update broke the site

 * The update to 1.7.1 brought the site down. I had to rename the plugin directory
   after it threw an error:
 * Catchable fatal error: Object of class WP_Error could not be converted to string
   in /home/USERNAME/public_html/wp-content/plugins/stats/stats.php on line 367
 * Tried a complete re-download and install but same error. After the re-install
   it asked for the API Key and then threw the error again. I uninstalled it. Had
   this happen to another site yesterday with a different error that went away after
   refresh of the page.

 * I removed the footer test in 1.7.2 pending investigation of various errors.
