    Hi Joast,
why not implementing the support for Microdata-Schema.org breadcrumbs in your WordPress SEO plugin?
AFAIK now Google requires this kind of tags to show breadcrumbs in rich snippets.

    Thanks in advance!

Sorry, it is not schema.org but data-vocabulary... There is a little bit of confusion in Google webmaster docs...

I am looking for that kind of breadcrumbs my self and recently discoverd that yoast's plug in doesn't support them. So, this would be a very nice addition indeed.

Yes, indeed i discovered that in the past Google didn't require to have microdata to show breadcrumbs in rich snippets, while now this kind of metatags are required.
Therefore, websites that have breadcrumbs already shown in Google search don't need to update their HTML, while new websites need to implement microdata.

You can implement the breadcrumbs via Yoast's Plugin by editing the plugin breadcrumb file.
Yoast intends to add rich snippets to his plugin soon, but some minor edits will put you ahead of the many others who use the plugin that may not even be aware of rich snippets yet.

I posted a tutorial and sample file of how this can be done: WordPress Rich Snippets in Breadcrumbs
