[Plugin: WordPress SEO by Yoast] Increasing 404 errors ending in /page/#/

  • WordPress version: 3.4.1
    WordPress SEO version: 1.2.5
    Genesis Framework: 1.8.2

I’ve just noticed that beginning in early June one of my websites started generating multiple 404 response codes and those errors have been steadily increasing. Prior to June 2012, I had up to four 404s, as of today, I have 62.

All of the new errors are generated by URLs ending in /page/#/ (where # = 1 thru…)

    Example: /adventures-with-mac-markdown/page/2/ at http://liveyourbestdreams.com/

My suspicion is that this is may be related to a combination of the WordPress SEO plugin (perhaps the site-map) and/or a RedirectMatch statement. I’ve noted that others reported a somewhat similar sounding problem previously.

    RedirectMatch 301 ^/([0-9]{4})/([0-9]{2})/(.*)$ http://liveyourbestdreams.com/$3

    I’ve temporarily deactivated the site-map.
