Support » Plugin: Yoast SEO » [Plugin: WordPress SEO by Yoast] Google News SiteMap still busted in 1.2.3

  • Wordprss SEO is a slick concept and for the most part, it’s a nice plugin. However, my main problem is the homepage titles and etc that yoast does not do a good job at. I’ve never experienced a plugin that would duplicate the page titles and descriptions out the box. The fact that I have to edit my themes core files is a pain in the but for everytime my theme gets an update. I have to go searching for the edits to redo. Also, taglines seem to be forgotten about in this script for reasons unknown. Sitemap issues for the upgrades after 1.1.9 have went to hell in a basket on my site.

As I said above, it’s a cool plugin for a vanilla site and has great potential, but it looks like I will have to fall back to Head2Space until this plugin is not so cranky with my site.

  • You have two choices at least for this one when it comes to the Google News Sitemap.

You can either revert back to version 1.1.9 which works perfect with the News Sitemap or stick with the latest version and use XML Sitemap Feed which was just updated today

It looks like the latest WordPress Update did some funky stuff for News Sitemaps. The Google News Sitemap on WordPress SEO module hasn’t been updated so the Google News tab won’t open.

Also for the duplication problem (happened to me too), have you got the “Force Rewrite Title” checked? The latest version had mine unchecked and I noticed the duplicates so I checked it and problem solved.

Aaron K said that they’re now working on the update which will be a separate plugin to work with WordPress SEO.

Not sure when it will be finished but since XML Sitemap Feed updated yesterday, it’ll probably be quick. Plus more and more people are bringing the issue up so that always brings faster results.
