    Hi pantone,

Indeed, earlier versions of the plugin used Timthumb only. As of now, it uses a mix of Timthumb and Post Thumbnails (aka Featured Image). This might change soon as I intend to remove Timthumb from my plugin again and rely only on Post Thumbnails since it’s already a native feature of WordPress.

    Hi Hector,

Thank you for the very quick response!

If you intend to remove Timthumb, could we expect this change in the next plugin update? Is there a timeline for this update?

Also, if you recall, there was the Timthumb security issue that came up last year. Is this plugin secure from such issues that make Timthumb vulnerable?

Yes, Timthumb is possibly going to be removed on the next version of WordPress Popular Posts. Current version of Timthumb, however, seems to be safe as patches have been added to fix the security issues it caused in the past (which was the reason I removed it before).

I’ve been researching and trying a couple of things in the past few days, and so far I’m pretty sure it will be gone. Need to run some more testing, though, as I don’t want to release another version with issues – last one caused me a lot of headaches due to me not testing it properly.
