 * I’m confused about which is remote and which is new and from which server to
   run the plug-in. The use of the terms “new server” and “remote server” seem potentially
   contradictory. In my case, the “new server” is localhost and the remote server
   is a shared hosting service.

 * In your case:
 * Current Server = Old Server = localhost
    Remote Server = New Server = Shared
   Hosting Service

 * Hmmm…I actually want to move from current server = old server – shared hosting
   service TO local server = new server = localhost.

 * You need to be able to connect your local machine using the FTP protocol to do
   that. You can google it to see how to do that. Then, you can use either Simple
   or Advanced Migration to migrate. Don’t forget to change your domain name to
   localhost during the migration.
 * By the way I’m so sorry for the late reply, I was attending several conferences
   during the weekend.
