I have followed the instructions in http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
I have tried two different blogs (on small – 10 posts+pages, and the other rather larger – 60 posts+pages with 300 photos), and have tried it on two different hosting providers (uk2.net and ipage.com).
In all four attempts, I have successfully installed WP3.3.1 and clicked on Tools->Import->WordPress and it has successfully installed the import plugin v0.5.
In all four attempts, I uploaded the WordPress export file, and told it to use the same usernames and before, and checked ‘download and import attachments’. I get several minutes of hourglass, with the text ‘Import WordPress’ on the screen. Eventually the hourglass stops, but no further message appears on the screen.
When I visit the blog in another screen, it just has the sample post and sample page. When I use file manager to browse the server, the wp_content/uploads folder has all the files. When I phpMyAdmin to the database, the first few posts are present in the wp_posts table, but not all of them by any stretch.
How can I get it to complete?
Many thanks for any help.
