Support » Plugin: WordPress Importer » [Plugin: WordPress Importer] podPress media file data missing

  • I’ve just used the WordPress Importer plugin to import a previously exported blog consisting of a set of podPress posts. However, the imported posts are all missing their podPress media files, despite the fact that I can see entries like this in the XML file:

    <wp:meta_key>_podPressMedia</wp:meta_key>
    <wp:meta_value><![CDATA[a:1:{i:0;a:10:{s:3:"URI";s:135:"http://xyz.mp3";s:5:"title";s:23:"Title"; s:4:"type";s:9:"audio_mp3";s:4:"size";s:8:"77493678";s:8:"duration";s:5:"72:37";s:12:"previewImage"; s:88:"imageURL";s:10:"dimensionW";s:1:"0";s:10:"dimensionH";s:1:"0"; s:3:"rss";s:2:"on";s:4:"atom";s:2:"on";}}]]></wp:meta_value>

    Does anyone know why these values haven’t been imported?

  • Hi Robert,

    it may help to use older version (v0.4) of the WP importer plugin (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-importer/download/).

    Tim

    ps: It is better if you tag a post in this forum with slug names (like wordpress-importer and podpress) of the plugins which are related to the problem instead of creating 2 equal posts. (the other post is http://wordpress.org/support/topic/podpress-media-files-missing-on-import). You can add further tags at a later time if you want.
    If you use the correct tags than the post will popup in both plugin forum feeds (like http://wordpress.org/support/rss/tags/wordpress-importer and http://wordpress.org/support/rss/tags/podpress).

    Tim –

    Thanks for that and apologies for the double-posting.

    I’ll try the older version of the importer plugin.

    Is this a known issue of v0.5 or should I create a bug report somewhere?

    Robert

    Hi Robert,

    if the older version works then I will take a further look. I hope that the WP Importer developers will get involved too. This thread has the necessary tag to notify them.

    Unfortunately it seems that there’s a problem with the importer and some serialized values on some systems (without the simplexml or xml PHP extensions), see http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-wordpress-importer-missing-serialized-meta-value?replies=4. Hopefully a fix will be available soon. Thanks for the report.

    If you change line 469 of wordpress-importer/parsers.php from

    $return = $wpdb->escape( trim( $return ) );

    to

    $return = trim( $return );

    i.e. remove the call to $wpdb->escape(). It should work for you. The entire line can probably be commented out too.

    Thank you Jon!

    I have made the suggested modification ($return = trim( $return );) in a copy of WP Importer 0.5.2 and it worked. The entries in the postmeta table which had no meta_value values after the import with the original v0.5.x Importer, have now non-empty meta_value values.

    Yep, that seems to have fixed it. All my podPress meta-data has now been imported.

    Thanks for the fix Jon.

    Hi there,

    I’m having a similar situation as Robert, with regards to podpress and .mp3 files. I edited the line of code from the parsers.php file as recommended above. However, I’m still not clear on how the issue is resolved on the database side.

    Specifically, having imported all posts once already, how would I go about attempting to “re”-import the same WordPress.xml file that I used originally, in order to also pull in the missing media files this time around?

    Would it require dropping a few tables from my database and importing again from scratch?

    I’m a bit of noob at this, so I apologize if my question seems silly. Any help is appreciated.

    If you just do it again the process should skip any posts, pages, etc. that already exist. If that doesn’t work properly then you should start from scratch instead.
