I am moving a WP blog to a new server.
    1. I have done a successful new installation of WP on the new server.
    2. Exported conternts of blog from development site to XML file.
    3. Select ‘Import’ on new site wp-admin page.

It is saying “To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access to your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed.”

I tried downloading the Importer zip file and copying it to the wp-content/plugins directory on the server but it does not show up in the ‘Plugins’ admin page. And if I try to Upload the zip file on that page I get the same request for FTP details.

Is there a way to import the XML file without FTP? I can get the file up to the server and run a shell command if necessary.

    thanks…

I don’t have FTP on this server (ssh access only). Is there a way to

Got round it. Unzipped the wordpress-importer.zip file under wp-content/plugins/ and could then activate it from the plugins control panel.
