[Plugin: WordPress HTTPS (SSL)] Shared SSL Error – No Permalinks

I’ve been reading up here and it looks like most people are having trouble with shared SSL and permalinks working together, but I can’t get shared SSL to work without the permalinks either…

I am trying to use:
https://secure.server.com/~user/wordpres/?page_id=31
which redirects to
https://secure.server.com/~user/wordpres/~user?page_id=31
or
https://secure.server.com/~user/~user/wordpres/?page_id=31

I have tried this on versions 3.1.2, 3.1.1 and 3.0.4 all with the same result.

Any ideas?
