[Plugin: WordPress Download Monitor] Custom Download URL breaks members-only downloads

  • We’ve been using a custom download URL since February. But recently, without warning, all of our logged in users were receiving a message “You must be logged in to download this file.” when trying to download members-only files.

I found this post this morning but it didn’t have any information:

I just tried all sorts of things — checking permissions, the download.php file, re-upgrading the db and erasing old tables, everything — but finally went back to that post and they too were using a custom download URL, so I removed ours and now downloads work properly.

The strange thing is that their post is 10 months old and ours was working fine until recently.

I’d prefer to use a custom URL, so if anyone knows a fix or what could be causing it I’d love to hear it.

  • Ok, I just had an idea and tried it — I put back in the custom URL and tried it again. Broken.

I then rebuilt the permalinks and tried it again — and it worked. Very strange, but if this happens to you, this is the solution.
