I had an idea today to give users of my plugins something back for donations. I'm not sure exactly what they would get but I would start with hiding any ads displayed on the plugins screens. I also have a plan to display ads on the plugins website, when someone is visiting by clicking a link within the plugin itself.
All those ads, would become hidden when someone makes a small donation. Just a start and the idea is all part of a very long term strategy to delivering plugins. I'm talking years, so I'm not sure when this would be implemented but I would guess near the end of 2013.
The whole thing would work by allowing a donator to register domains they plan to use the free edition on.
To make it worth doing there would need to be other advantages. Possibly access to the full edition for a certain period of time. This would suit users who have a one time need and know the free edition well. It would also serve as less risky trial.
A lot to consider and think about. It would all become part of the existing Web Services created using SOAP, already in development.
